Since the artificial intelligence hype of the nineties has faded the industry moves further into understanding words, text and spoken language. Traditional business applications utilise and encode words into programming code and data without identifying their meaning, let alone being able to pass the information on to other users.

Concurrent to the Internet XML has been widely accepted as „lingua franca“ for the description of semantic meanings as well. By recommendation through W3C in 2004, the formal description language OWL Web Ontology Language was established as quasi standard. This allows even business applications to interpret and transmit automatically the content and meaning of idioms and phrases.

In business applications, Companio does intensive research in the following fields. The University of Augsburg supports our research activities in joint projects.
